If we all had a dime for every time we heard that! We all are fully aware of the economy and all that it encompasses. I am not sure, however, that we are all aware of the rewards of coming out of bad economic times. I would like to point out a few. First, as a people we are more focused on what is most important to us; community, family, and simply the things that will always be there regardless of what the “economy” does. We appreciate all of our gifts in life, our homes, our relationships, so much more than we did when we had everything at our fingertips. Back to basics is really the theme these days, and not just with personal relationships, but business as well. As the businesses that survived, recover, they are more aware of their relationships, of their gifts and of their money as well. The days of companies throwing money around and not expecting or monitoring their ROI are gone (for now). You have to show value in every service or product you provide. We want to see as much bang for our buck as we can and businesses want to see the most return on investment. It boils down to… what does it cost and what do I get for that cost?

“What about me?”, “Look at me?”
We are a society plagued by, at some level or another, self adoration. We want to tell everyone about us, what we can do and how we can do it. This is more than likely human instinct. However, to be successful in any kind of marketing you must listen, and resist the urge to talk about yourself and your service. Figure out what the customers needs are and ask yourself if you can actually help them with your services or product.

Just like in a relationship with a friend or family member, the most successful are based on each person giving to the other. When you feel like you’re not getting something in return, you’re more likely to withdraw; but when you sense that your friend/family is giving freely of themselves, you’ll reciprocate.

Be gracious, take the main focus off of yourself and put it on your clients/customers. Giving a little of your time and ideas to someone may generate a relationship instead of just a business connection that ends up fizzling out.
